Obituary for Coburn Dale "C.D." Jenkins
Coburn Dale “C.D.” Jenkins, 71, a man of honor and distinction, lost his battle with lung cancer after a valiant and courageous struggle on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at his home surrounded by family. His wife, Joan Kay of 47 years was by his side.
Born in Robbinsville, NC, he was the son of the late Frank Ray and Hazel Lenoir Jenkins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kelly Jenkins; sister, Mary Sue Almond and granddaughter, Lillian Faith Jenkins. C.D. was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam Era and retired after 30 years from the N.C. State Hwy. Patrol. He was a member of Iotla Baptist Church and the Junaluskee Masonic Lodge No. 145. C.D. was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and ginseng hunting.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan Kay Jenkins; three sons, Patrick Ray Jenkins and wife Sheri, Jonathan Howard (Howie) Jenkins and wife Enana and Michael Dale Jenkins and wife Jessica all of Franklin; grandchildren, Savannah Jenkins, Britany Beck, Lindy Beck, Ashley Coleman and husband Brandon, Owen Jenkins, Oliver Jenkins and Benjamin Jenkins; great grandson, Charlie Beck; sister, Kathy Huneycutt and husband Clyde of Belmont, NC; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, October 30, at Iotla Baptist Church. Rev. Steve Reeves and Dr. Jeff Hensley will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Graveside Honors will be conducted by the N.C. State Highway Patrol Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. Thursday, at Iotla Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Huneycutt, Chad Huneycutt, Bill Almond, Harry Howell, Jerry Hall, Tony Ledford, Bob DeBrule, Bill Harrell, Clay Cogdill and Mike Henry.
Memorial donations can be made to the Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Cynthia Rowland, 886 Younce Creek Rd, Franklin, NC 28734.
