Jimmy Hanes Sanders, 75, of Franklin, passed away Monday, January 19, 2015.

Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Jess Sanders and Ida Shope Sanders. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Elura Bell Walters, Edith Conley, Willa Stiles and Margaret Harrison; brothers, Charles Sanders and Sonny Sanders and half-brother, Timothy Sanders. He was a member of the National Guard for 6 years; retired construction worker; active member of Prentiss Baptist Church where he served as chairman of Deacon Board for 48 years and Sunday school teacher and superintendent.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Peggy Yonce Sanders; two sons, J. Kevin Sanders and wife Karen and Rusty Sanders both of Franklin; two brothers, Harris Sanders of Greenville, SC and Jay Sanders of Franklin; two sisters, Betty Owens of Charlotte and Olivia “Tootsie” Reece of Anderson, SC; half-sister, Amelia Trull of Fletcher, NC; one granddaughter, Ashley Sanders; one great grandson, Aidan Holland; aunt, Mildred Swafford of Franklin; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 22, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Billy Sellers and Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate. Burial will be in the Prentiss Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Greg Day, Stan Sanders, Joe Friedling, Scottie Reece, Joey Reece and Doug Ledford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Prentiss Baptist Church, C/O Beverly Ledford, 1220 Belle Dowdle Road, Franklin, NC 28734.

Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
