Jacobus Johannes Burger, 81, of Franklin, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2015.
Born in Bethal, South Africa, he was the son of the late Jacobus Johannes Burger and Alida Elizabeth Naude Burger. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in law, Simon Paul Jelonek; brother, Japie Burger and Grandson, Klein Kosie and brother-in law, Nels Labuschagne JJ was a member of the Dutch Reform Church. He served as a member of the Parliament of Rhodesia from 1970-1980; serving for the Ian Smith Administration. JJ was a very successful farmer and served as Chairman of many agricultural associations. His greatest love in life was his family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Martie Burger; three children, Antoinette Baker and husband Harold of Franklin, Dione “Dee” Jelonek of Franklin, JJ Koos Burger and wife Wendy of Sebring, FL; brother, Pieter Burger (Ria) and family of Zimbabwe, Africa; two sisters, Ankie Olivier and husband Nico and family of South Africa and Via Labuschagne and family of South Africa and sister-in law, Jeanette of Zimbabwe and family; six grandchildren, Andre (Merissa), Michelle (Saville), Marc, Hailey (Cory), Kara and Wade; three great grandchildren, Kaylynn, Landon and Olivia. He also leaves behind an aunt, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 2nd at Burningtown Baptist Church. Rev. Randy Drinnon will officiate.
