Shawn Hardin McLendon, 55, of Franklin, NC, passed away April 19, 2015.
Born in Fort Lauderdale, FL on January 31, 1960, he was the son of the late James Foster McLendon, Jr. and June Hardin McLendon. He attended Rickards Middle School and Northeast High School in Ft. Lauderdale. Shawn lived for his children, James, Kathleen and Patrick. They were the most important part of his life. He absolutely loved his Jack Russell Terrier named “Jack”. He spent hours on the computer, always learning something about the issues of today. He was fascinated with ham radios and they became his connection to the outside world as his health declined. He was deeply sentimental about his days growing up in Florida and always wanted to go back home. He had pride in his Scotch-Irish heritage and southern way of life. He spent hours listening to old blues music even in the nursing home. One of his last requests was for his friend to bring him some homemade white chocolate chips cookies.
He is survived by his three children, James Foster McLendon, III and wife Jaclyn McLendon of Queensland, Australia, Kathleen “Kat” Anna Mae McLendon of Franklin and Patrick Joseph McLendon of Florida; brother, Robin Foster McLendon and wife Connie of Franklin and sister, Carla June Strong of CA and three grandchildren, Alanna Arwen Putman, Vincent Eddard Putman and Maia June McLendon.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Macon Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
