Obituary for Jesse Vandiver Shirley Jr.
Jesse Vandiver Shirley, Jr., 77, of Otto, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015.
Born in Rabun Co, GA, he was the son of the late Jesse Vandiver Shirley, Sr. and Fannie Mae Moore Shirley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Lovell, Virginia Hamilton and Evelyn Dockins. Jesse was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean conflict. He was a life member of the VFW in Lavonia, GA and member of the DAV in Rabun County. Jesse loved making music; playing electric bass and the upright bass especially. He loved to fish, hunt, travel, work on clocks and enjoyed working in his garden. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Clayton, GA.
He is survived by his wife Faye Nichols Shirley; three children, Larry Dale Shirley and wife Wanda of Rabun Gap, GA, Diane Gail Shirley Brendle and husband Ernie of Franklin and Allen Leshon Shirley and wife Mindy also of Franklin; two brothers, Donald Shirley of Alto, GA and Jim Shirley of Erwin, NC; eight grandchildren, Katrina Hunnicutt, Kessiah Gipson, Kendal Henry, Heather Brendle, Jeremy Brendle, Morgan Shirley, Chase Shirley and Liam Shirley; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 11th at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Rev. Wesely Price will officiate with VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108 conducting military rites.
The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VFW Post 7339 C/O Niel Riendeau, 1155 N. Skeenah Road, Franklin, NC 28734 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
