Obituary for Robert "Bob" Keener

Robert “Bob” Keener, died in his home on July 20th 2015 of natural causes. He was 85.

Bob was born on July 4, 1930 to Willard and Albia Keener. He lived his entire life in Franklin, NC, marrying Mary Etta Keener in April 1953. At different times during his career he built houses, owned and operated the wonderfully remembered Sugar Town Donut Shop with Mary Etta, and raised chickens. He was also a member of the Kinfolk V, a local band that in June 1964 made it onto the Arthur Smith Show, the first nationally syndicated country music show on television.

Bob suffered a severe stroke in 2002. He spent his remaining years at home due to complications of the stroke. He leaves a magnificent legacy of family and friends who remember his deep love of music, quiet sense of humor and devotion to all of his family and friends.

Mr. Keener is survived by his wife, Mary Etta; his three children, Robbie Keener; Vickie Keener Luecht and her husband Ric; and Tim Keener and Tenia Judge; his five grandchildren, Caleb Gibson and fiancé, Gwen Woodcum; Blaine Keener and his wife Amber; Shane Keener; Kaleena Messer and her husband Tim and Jonathan Keener; three great grandchildren, Braylon and Mason Keener; Ellie Messer; and soon-to-be fourth great grandchild, Olivia Ramirez. He is also survived by one brother, Charles Keener of Franklin. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Earl and Herschel, and sisters, Hazel and Evelyn.

An at-home visitation and memorial for the family and friends will take place on Wednesday, July 22 from 1:00-7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Angel Home Health and Hospice, 170 Church Street or Associated Services for the Blind, Inc. C/O Development Department, 919 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107 or online at-asb.org.
