Lester Ray Young, 81, of Franklin, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015.
Ray was the oldest child of the late Louin and Lillie Adams Young. He graduated from Franklin High School and Western Carolina College. Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving one year in South Korea. After graduating from Western Carolina with a master’s degree, Ray taught public school for four years in Alaska, one year in Colorado and taught over thirty years in North Carolina. Ray was a charter and devoted member of Higdonville Baptist Church in Franklin. He held many positions in the church, including teaching the adult married Sunday School Class for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clifton Young.
Ray is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Joyce Greer Young; one son, Anthony Young of Columbia, SC; one daughter, Lisa Young of Franklin; three brothers, Wardie Young (Judy) of Franklin, Dale Young of Franklin and Doyle Young (Shirley) of Five Points, AL; two sisters, Laverne Tippett (Jim) of Franklin and Bonnie Angel (Earl) of Gastonia. He is also survived by many nephews and nieces. His survivors also include a very special uncle, Parker Adams of Franklin, who was a tremendous help to him throughout his long illness.
Private graveside services will be held for the family at the Higdonville Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Steve Reeves will officiate.
