Gladys Tallent Bateman, of Franklin celebrated her 91st birthday on September 17, went home to celebrate with Jesus on September 22. Gladys was best known as Granny Toot, Aunt Toot or just Toot.

The mother of one daughter, Kay Ledford and husband Dearl of Franklin, a step daughter-in-law, Denzel Bateman of Greensboro, NC. Granny Toot was blessed with 4 grandchildren, Stephanie O’Neil, Brandon Ledford/Donna, Derrah Kiser/Johnny, & Bethany Virga/Mike all of Franklin. Two step grandchildren, Ralna and David Bateman of Greensboro, NC. She was extra blessed with six great grandchildren, Kaylee Marsengill, Braden, Jared, Charidy Ledford, Madison O’Neil, and Alauna Kiser all of Franklin. She was especially blessed with one great great grandchild, Ellis Benton Barrett.

She was a sibling to Lewis (Pott) Tallent of Boise, Idaho, Boyd Tallent of Franklin and Shelia Fouts of Canton, NC. She was a loving sister-in-law to June, Etta, Frances, Lillie Tallent and Ed Fouts. Aunt Toot was a very special Aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Gladys is now rejoicing with husband Clyde Bateman, step son Jim Bateman, parents Joe and Ruth Tallent, two brothers Marshall (Bull) Tallent and Paul (Nig) Tallent who have gone on before her.

Her long, productive and happy life was filled with cooking, farming, gardening, family/friends gatherings and graciously taking care of others. Gladys always had room for one more at her table. She leaves behind family and friends that will remember her strength, smile, kindness, love and her witty sense of humor.
Prior to taking her flight, she was well cared for and loved by the care takers in the S.P.A.R.K.S Unit at Macon Valley Nursing Center. Thanks to all who were there to enrich her life.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 26th at 3:00 p.m. at Iotla Baptist Church with the family receiving friends 1:30 to 3 prior to services, Rev. Steve Reeves, Rev. Josh Brooks, and Dr. Jeff Hensley officiating.

Pallbearers will be Gary, Randy and Cody Fouts, Braden Ledford, Bruce Paris and Steve Tallent.

Memorials may be made to Iotla Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 1537 Iotla Church Rd. Franklin, NC.
