Fred Robert Cain, 89, of Franklin, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016.

Born in Belle Valley, OH, he was the son of the late William Bryan Cain Sr. and Ruby Mildred Keaton Cain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Grace Gray Cain and his second wife, Berniece Hunsinger Cain. Fred received his doctorate of education from the University of Georgia and was a professor of physics at Edison College in Fort Myers, FL. He was a proud veteran of the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force. Fred was an avid golfer and member of First Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his sister, Martha Edwards of N. Ft. Myers, FL; his companion, Jeannette Poff of Franklin; two step-sons, Herb Gross of Portage, MI and Gerald Gross of Ravenna, OH; step-daughter, Dorothy Holmlund of Phoenix, AZ several nieces and nephews and numerous extended relatives in Ohio, New Jersey, Michigan, North Carolina and Florida.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 13th at First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Tempe Fussell will officiate with military rites conducted by VFW Post 7339 and American Legion Post 108. A reception will follow the service in the Tartan Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 45 Church Street, Franklin, NC 28734.
