Obituary for Eugene Fernan Gonzalez
A child of God, Eugene Fernan Gonzalez, of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017.
Born in Queens, NY, he was the son of the late Delfin Gonzalez and Mary Wheeler Gonzalez. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Eugene was a US Army veteran and served during the Korean conflict. He served as a Dade County Family Court mediator. Eugene enjoyed canoeing in the everglades and hiking in the mountains. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Bannon Gonzalez; four children, Virginia Phillips and husband Geoff of Evergreen, CO, Michael Gonzalez of Pensacola, FL, Gene Gonzalez of Pensacola, FL and Daniel Gonzalez of Wilmington, NC and one grandson, Spencer Phillips of Evergreen, CO.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 27th at St. Francis Catholic Church. Father Tien Duong will officiate. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Appalachian Animal Rescue, PO Box 81, Franklin, NC 28744.
