Obituary for Frankie Jacobs (Bumgarner)

Frankie Louise Bumgarner Jacobs, age 91, passed away Thursday, June 14 at home surrounded by her husband and daughters, two of her granddaughters and three great granddaughters. She was born in Wilmont, in Jackson County, the youngest child of Robert Coleman and Sarah Sutton Bumgarner and was married to her partner and loving husband J.C. Jacobs for 69 years. She was a graduate of Sylva Central High School. At age 13 she narrowly survived the Jackson County flood of 1940. She moved to Franklin at age 18 to help her sister in business. She worked as a bookkeeper for Bryant Furniture Company and Bryant Funeral Home until her marriage. With her husband she owned and operated businesses on Main Street in Franklin that spanned 66 years. Together they ran People’s Department Store, The Twins’ Shop, The Bridal Shoppe and The Gift Gallery. In their 70’s they opened Designer’s Alley: Bed, Bath and More. Frankie served as a Professional Bridal Consultant for many brides across Western North Carolina.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Franklin for over 73 years, serving in earlier times as a Sunday School teacher and Woman’s Missionary Union President and singing in the choir.

She is survived by her husband, J.C. Jacobs; two daughters, Janet Jacobs Greene and husband Vic of Franklin; Nancy Jacobs Paris of Franklin and fiancée Dempsey Hammond, Jr.; grandchildren: Jason Long and wife Mary of Greenville, SC.; Lori Long and partner Chad Williams of Franklin; Heather Dorion and husband Craig of Cary, NC.; Brooke Morgan and husband Kyle of Matthews, NC.; Taylor Marinakis and husband Zach of Chapel Hill, NC.; step-grandchildren Megan Roberts and husband Haynes of Sewanee, TN.; John Greene of Greenville, SC; and great-grandchildren Haelan and Ashwin Long, Abi and Mya Echevarria-Long, Claire and Cole Dorion, Graycen and Tucker Morgan, Millie and Jane Roberts.

Her funeral will be held at four pm on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Franklin. Visitation will take place one hour before the service. Dr. Robert Brown and Dr. Victor Greene, Jr. will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jason Long, Craig Dorion, Kyle Morgan, Zach Marinakis, Chad Williams, Scotty Jacobs, Larry Jacobs and David Curtis.
